Nutrition Services at UW Neighborhood Clinics

UW Neighborhood Clinic Nutrition ServicesThe UW Neighborhood Clinics offer patients medical nutrition therapy and diabetes education. These services are provided by Deborah Katz and Maureen Chomko, registered dietitians and certified diabetes educators, certified by the State of Washington, Health Professions Quality Assurance Division. At the request of your primary care provider, we provide nutritional assessment, counseling, education and guidance on a variety of nutrition related concerns.

Patients referred specifically for diabetes education will spend approximately one hour with their clinic’s dietitian in an initial assessment, which will include a discussion of diet, exercise, lifestyle risk factors, weight reduction and other behaviors that may be playing a part in the self-management of diabetes.

Katz and Chomko also provide education for patients on home glucose monitoring and those using diabetes medications; they also offer follow up appointments for ongoing support. Visits take place in the patient’s primary care clinic in close collaboration with the patient’s primary care provider.

Nutrition services are available at all UW Neighborhood Clinic locations.
