Kidney Stone Center at NWHMC

About Your Appointment

Welcome to UW Medicine Kidney Stone Center, the first comprehensive center for the treatment and prevention of kidney stones in the Puget Sound region. Our multidisciplinary team of experts in urology, nephrology and nutrition provide a single point of care for patients suffering from acute or recurrent kidney stones. By bringing together all services in a single location, we can deliver better and more efficient care at every phase of treatment and prevention of this painful condition.

When Scheduling an Appointment

To schedule an appointment, please call 206.668.5215.

Our goal is to provide prompt assessment and treatment of your kidney stones. Our nurse coordinator does an extensive intake on all new patients to ensure that existing results are available to your provider. If there are additional tests needed to fully assess your condition, every effort is made to coordinate them to be completed and resulted prior to your initial visit so that a treatment recommendation can be made.

When you make your appointment, let the scheduler know the nature of your health concerns. This is essential to allow our providers and staff to plan appropriately for your visit. If you have numerous concerns, you may need more time than is allotted for a standard visit. We may be able to offer a longer appointment time -- ask if a longer appointment time is available if you think you'll need it.

Your First Visit

For patients being referred to the Kidney Stone Center, we make every effort to review your records and schedule you for any necessary tests prior to your new patient appointment with our physicians. By doing so, we are able to ensure you have the best possible consult. If you have questions about the status of your referral, please call our office to speak with our intake coordinator.

We ask new patients to arrive 15 minutes early in order to complete our new patient forms and complete the registration process. Please bring a valid Washington state picture identification and insurance card; this is required at check-in.

If you are a current patient and have an urgent or emergent issue that requires assistance from our on-call physician, please use our main number and follow the audio prompts to be connected with our answering service. The answering service will page the doctor, who will respond to you within 30 minutes. We encourage you to write down your concerns before calling so you don’t forget to tell us anything, and have your pharmacy name and number available. Please be aware we do not refill narcotic prescriptions over the weekend. We ask that you inform your physician 24 hours prior to the weekend if you need a narcotic refill.

Canceling & Rescheduling Your Appointment

We urge you to keep your scheduled appointments whenever possible. In the event you need to cancel, please contact the clinic by phone and provide at least 24 hours’ notice. Your early cancellation allows us to offer your appointment time to another patient needing medical care.

We may charge a $50 fee to patients who do not arrive for their scheduled appointment. Patients who no show miss their appointments three times in a 12-month period may be dismissed from the clinic.

Hospitalization

Patients who are in need of hospitalization will be admitted to Northwest Hospital & Medical Center unless requested otherwise.

Labs and Other Tests

Billing for lab tests, pathology, ultrasounds, genetic testing, and specific hormone tests are billed separately from your office visit. Typically you will receive a bill from UW Medicine Northwest Hospital or UW Medical Center or other outside laboratories for tests mentioned above.
