Treating Dry Eye Syndrome

Overview

We usually try to approach treating dry eyes by understanding the cause and specific challenges for each individual patient. We aim to replenish the eye’s moisture and optimize overall tear film quality.

Treatment for dry eyes ranges from subtle dietary changes to use of over-the-counter artificial tears to aggressive treatment with topical or oral medications. In patients who produce lower tear-film volume, physicians can insert a punctual plug to temporarily or permanently block the drainage system of the eye, helping to keep the environment of the eye moist.
