Admissions committee

Interview medical student candidates between October and March in Seattle and the rest of the WWAMI region.

Volunteer as a preceptor for one of these student-run service learning projects

 
Aloha Inn Health Outreach Center

Medical students offer health screening and referral services to residents of the Aloha Inn, a transitional housing facility for the homeless in King County.

RotaCare Free Clinic, Lake City
Medical students partner with RotaCare Free Clinic in Lake City to provide medical treatment and referral services to individuals without health insurance who cannot afford to pay for healthcare.

Casa Latina Health Outreach Center
Medical students join with students from other health professional schools and undergraduates to offer health screening, health education and referral services to immigrant communities in Seattle.

CHAP (Community Health Advancement Program)
CHAP — operated out of the Department of Family Medicine — sponsors student-initiated and student-directed extracurricular community service projects, educational programs and a seminar series addressing the health needs of underserved communities. Preceptors are needed for the dermatology clinic for homeless men and women at the Downtown Emergency Services Center and for foot care clinics for homeless people at various locations.

UW Test
Students provide free HIV testing and counseling in partnership with Seattle King County Public Health at community organizations in Seattle.

Volunteer physicians in all specialties are needed to work with medical students at these programs. If you are interested, please contact Lauren Henricksen, the School’s service learning manager, at lhenric@uw.edu or 206.685.2009.
 

Host SAID (Student-Alumni Informational Days)

Sign up to host a casual gathering (coffee, lunch, dinner) for one or more medical students. Share information and answer questions students may have about your specialty and work-life balance. Coordinated by the UW Medicine Alumni Association.

Free room (WWAMI HomeStay)

Sign up to provide a WWAMI student with a place to stay for approximately four weeks.

Housing for HOST (Help Our Students Travel)

Sign upto provide overnight lodging for a fourth-year student during residency interviews Students are being encouraged to interview for as many as 20 residencies, and the travel expenses add up quickly.

Present students with stethoscopes

Join the Family Day activities in September by presenting students with their first stethoscope on behalf of the UW Medicine Alumni Association.

Class representative

Be the liaison between your class and the UW Medicine Alumni Association. Help with your reunion and pass on news and updates from your classmates. One or more representatives needed for each class. See the list of representatives.

Member, reunion class committee

Ensure a successful turnout at your reunion by helping to contact your classmates to encourage them to attend.

Nominate award candidates

Identify and nominate classmates and colleagues for an alumni award. To submit your nomination, complete this form.

Volunteer.

Participate in the UW Medicine Alumni Association-sponsored programs listed above that benefit students (SAID, HOST, WWAMI HomeStay). We always need volunteers.

Become a board member.

Actively participate in alumni programs, meetings and committees, and provide guidance for the general direction of the UW Medicine Alumni Association.

Write words of wisdom.

Share some words with students! We share your advice with second-year students as they transition from the classroom to clinical work, and we share words of congratulations with our graduating students. (Cards with your advice are placed in students’ white coats at our Clinical Transition Ceremony; the congratulations card is presented to students as part of a graduation packet.) Simply email a few lines to medalum@uw.edu, and thank you!

Attend a national specialty conference.

Represent the UW Medicine Alumni Association, and be our on-site host. Take a few photos of fellow alumni. (We may use them in UW Medicine magazine or post them on our website.)

Send photos of your medical-school days.

Either email or mail your photos to us; be sure to identify the subjects and date. (We will scan and return the photos you send by mail.)
