Janna Lee Friedly, M.D.
Dr. Janna Friedly is a board certified physiatrist and UW assistant professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. She is the Medical Director of the outpatient Rehabilitation Medicine clinics and the Limb Viability Service at Harborview Medical Center.
Dr. Friedly received her undergraduate degree in 1994 from Stanford University and her medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University in 2001. She completed her residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Washington in 2005. She completed the Rehabilitation Medicine Scientist Training Program (RMSTP) K12 fellowship in 2008.
My role as a rehabilitation medicine doctor is to help people to adjust to major life changing events and disability and to help people improve function. I believe that by actively engaging patients in their health care that I can help them to lead active, healthy and fulfilling lives after amputation. I also focus on the prevention of complications after disability.
Dr. Friedly's clinical specialty is the comprehensive rehabilitation of people with amputations or facing limb loss due to a variety of causes. She provides pre-amputation counseling and education, coordinates rehabilitation services for amputees and works closely with Prosthetics and Orthotics.

Dr. Friedly's primary clinical interest is the rehabilitation of people with amputation and people facing limb loss. She also has interests in chronic pain and spinal disorders.
Dr. Friedly's research interests include health services research, improvement of health care delivery systems to persons with disability, outcomes research, and quality improvement. Her research has focused on studying interventions for the treatment of pain related to spine disorders as well as amputation. She currently is the primary investigator for a large multicenter randomized controlled trial of epidural steroid injections for spinal stenosis in the elderly.
Dr. Friedly teaches Evidence Based Medicine and Research Methodology to the rehabilitation medicine residents. She also enjoys educating students, residents and the public regarding rehabilitation issues following amputation.
