Michael James Souter, M.B.Ch.B

Dr. Souter is the chief of anesthesiology at Harborview Medical Center, a UW professor of anesthesiology and pain medicine, and an adjunct professor of neurological surgery. His scope of care includes neuroanesthesia and neurocritical care.

He graduated in medicine and surgery from the University of Edinburgh in 1984. He was a medical officer in the Royal Navy from 1985-1988.

Personal Interests
Scuba diving (divemaster, mixed gases, closed circuit rebreathers) and aviation (private pilot license).

Clinical Interests
Neurocritical care, neurovascular anesthesiology and electrophysiological monitoring.

Research Interests
Neuroanesthesia with neurophysiology and monitoring; critical care of subarachnoid hemorrhage and traumatic brain injury; information technology in anesthesia and medicine; monitoring technology in anesthesia and critical care medicine; and management of organ donors.
