Wayne C. McCormick, M.D., M.P.H.

Wayne C. McCormick, MD, MPH is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington, Department of Medicine, Division of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine, Harborview Medical Center.  He is a graduate of Washington University Medical School in St. Louis and of the University of Washington School of Public Health in Seattle.  He is a former Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar and is board certified in medicine, preventive medicine and public health, palliative medicine, and geriatrics.

Patient Care Philosophy
Dr. McCormick believes in holistic are and works primarily with patients who have multiple chronic illnesses. He cares for patients in clinics, hospitals and, if needed, nursing homes and at home. His hobbies include hiking and bicycling. Dr. McCormick is board-certified in internal medicine, geriatric medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, public health and general preventive medicine. His research interests are in the epidemiology and health services use of seriously ill patients. He is medical director of serveral local organizations, including hospice and long term care facilities.

Research Interests
Dr. McCormick's research focus is health services research and epidemiology of dementing illness (Alzheimers disease and other dementias) and other chronic diseases, including HIV infection in older persons.  He is co-investigator for cohort clinical and epidemiological studies of older persons (Aging Changes in Thought Study [3500 older Group Health enrollees being followed for cognitive and functional changes] and the Kame Project [1985 older Japanese-American persons in King County, parallel to the ACT Study].  He also is involved in a number of quality- and process-improvement projects in palliative care and hospice that are amenable to research questions.
