Joseph Cuschieri, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Cuschieri is a UW Professor of Surgery, specializing in general surgery, emergency surgery, and critical care.  He is the Director of Surgical Critical Care at Harborview Medical Center and Associate Program Director of the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Washington.  He is also involved in translational research sponsored by the NIH investigating alterations in host immunity following injury and during ischemia.

Surgical infections, inflammatory cell function following trauma and during sepsis.

Research Interests
Surgical infections: Diagnosis and treatment. Inflammatory dysfunction following trauma and during infection: Evaluation of molecular and genetic signaling associated with dysregulated immunity leading to organ dysfunction.

Teaching Interests
Teaching assessment and management of acute surgical emergencies in compassionate manner.
