Patient Care Philosophy

I like to work as part of a team in taking care of patients who have severe cardiac disease. Having been a patient myself, I would like to make patient's experience as stress and pain free as possible.

Personal Interests

Open source computing and skiing.

Clinical Interests

Anesthesia for patients with significant cardiac or respiratory disease, transesophageal echocardiography and management of implantable cardiac devices during surgery.

Research Interests

Utility of simulation training.

Dr. Lombaard completed his medical degree in South Africa. This was followed by training in surgical specialties in Wellington, New Zealand. This included training in intensive care, cardiac surgery and vascular surgery. He became interested in anesthesia and completed a fellowship training at the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.

Since then, he has moved to Seattle and became certified in the use of transesophageal echocardiography. He is a member of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists.

In his non-clinical time, he is an ACLS instructor and is also the director of anesthesiology simulation training at UWMC.
