Patient Care Philosophy

What Dr. Mrugala enjoys most about his profession is the direct contact he has with patients and the ability to participate in their care together with his team. “I truly appreciate the multi-disciplinary nature of treating patients diagnosed with a brain tumor. In this environment we can provide the best possible care to our patients.”

Personal Interests

Away from work, when the opportunities arise, Dr. Mrugala is an avid alpine skier, hiker, stand-up paddle boarder and cyclist. He enjoys theatre and classical music. He likes to travel, cook for his family and friends and work in his urban garden.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Mrugala treats primary and metastatic brain tumors, primary central nervous system lymphoma, neurofibromatosis and neurologic complications of cancer.

Research Interests

Dr. Mrugala’s research interests are in experimental therapeutics, novel imaging techniques in neuro-oncology and complications of treatments in neuro-oncology.

Dr. Maciej Mrugala is an Associate Professor of Neurology, Neurological Surgery and Medicine, He is Alexander M Spence Endowed Chair in Neuro-Oncology and Chief of the Division of Neuro-Oncology at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Mrugala earned his medical degree from the University of Warsaw Medical School, where he graduated with distinction in 1995. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in neurobiology at Copernicus University in Torun, Poland. He earned his Master in Public Health degree at Harvard University. He completed his residency in neurology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Fellowship in Neuro-Oncology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
