She did a medical internship followed by a neurology residency and a neurocritical care fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. After spending a year and a half at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Dr. Becker relocated to UW.

She is a fellow of the American Heart Association and is board certified in neurology and vascular neurology. She is actively involved with the American Stroke Association and is currently chair of the International Stroke Conference
