About Kristina Marie Utzschneider
Kristina Utzschneider, M.D., is a board certified physician at the VA Puget Sound, director of the VA Diabetes Care Program and a UW assistant professor of Medicine and Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition. In addition to clinical duties, she is a clinical researcher focused on Type 2 diabetes and heads several studies investigating factors that contribute to why people develop Type 2 diabetes and how best to treat it.
Dr. Utzschneider believes that patients with chronic disease need to be engaged in their care and self-management. This is particularly true for patients with diabetes.
Dr. Utzschneider earned her M.D. from Harvard. She is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. He research interests include the pathophysiology, prevention and treatment of Type 2 diabetes.

In her free time Dr. Utzschneider enjoys gourmet cooking, travel and downhill skiing.
