Patient Care Philosophy

Our goal for electrodiagnostic testing is for patients to gain knowledge about their condition, and to help consulting physicians take better care of their patients by reaching a precise diagnosis.

Personal Interests

Being physically active, including yoga, running, hiking, tennis, oil painting and reading mystery novels.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Barr is very committed to resident and medical student education--both technical and communication skills. She is involved nationally in helping faculty improve teaching and patient care skills

Research Interests

Improving residency training use of electrodiagnostic studies for prognosis.

Dr. Karen Barr is the medical director of electrodiagnostics for the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. She has over 20 years of experience performing and teaching electrodiagnostic studies from the most straightforward to complex clinical situations. She greatly enjoys working with patients. Prior to becoming the director of electrodiagnostics, she specialized in treating musculoskeletal and neurological conditions associated with complex medical conditions such as cancer. Dr. Barr is the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine Residency program director. She also has been very active in medical student teaching. She has a particular interest in teaching communication skills and in faculty development efforts to enhance faculty vitality and joy for their work.
