Dr. Kaufman is wonderful and has been since my first visit with him many years ago. I cannot think of anything negative I could say. Even when I wasn't taking the best care of my T1 diabetes several years ago, and I suspect Dr. Kaufman was probably frustrated with me on some things, I could still tell he was "in my corner" and wanted to help me improve. And he did help me improve, by helping me convert to CGM and insulin pump therapy several years ago. That change has had a profoundly positive impact on my overall health and day-to-day quality of life. Dr. Kaufman deserves credit for making the recommendation to me, for his patience as I resisted the idea of change, and for his assistance getting me set up and configured correctly. I'm grateful.

About Joel D. Kaufman

Joel D. Kaufman M.D., M.P.H. is a specialist in internal medicine (primary care) and in occupational and environmental medicine. He is a UW professor of medicine, environmental & occupational health sciences, and epidemiology.

Dr. Kaufman earned his bachelor's degree and medical degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He was an internal medicine resident at the Boston City Hospital, and then completed a fellowship (occupational and environmental medicine) and an M.P.H. at the University of Washington.

Dr. Kaufman's clinical interests include primary care of adults, prevention of cardiovascular disease, and environmental and occupational factors in health--diseases and injuries, allergies and asthma. He is board certified in internal medicine and in preventive (occupational) medicine.

Dr. Kaufman believes doctors and patients need to work together to solve their health problems and it is critically important to work to prevent problems before they occur.
