Patient Care Philosophy

I believe that good patient care starts with listening to the patient and addressing his or her concerns. I also believe that healthcare is a partnership between the physician and the patient. This involves patient education and helping the patient make informed decisions.

Personal Interests

Dr. Yu lives in the greater Seattle area with her husband and two daughters. Her pastimes include reading, skiing, cooking and family activities.

Clinical Interests

Comprehensive eye care, including cataracts and cataract surgery, dry eye, blepharitis, glaucoma, diabetes in the eye and macular degeneration.

Dr. Yu is a board certified comprehensive ophthalmologist and a UW clinical assistant professor. Her clinical interest is in comprehensive eye care including dry eyes, blepharitis, cataracts and cataract surgery, glaucoma, diabetes in the eye and macular degeneration.She was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She earned her bachelor’s degree with highest distinction from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She attended Washington University School of Medicine, in St. Louis, and earned her Ph.D. in molecular biology and her M.D.

Following her transitional internship at Forest Park Hospital in St. Louis, she returned to Washington University School of Medicine to complete her residency in ophthalmology. Dr. Yu has been on faculty at University of Washington since 2008. She is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as, the Washington Association of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. She teaches residents and medical students how to evaluate and treat a broad spectrum of eye diseases and also trains residents in cataract surgery. She values both resident education and patient education and finds them fulfilling aspects of her career.
