Dr. Baird is the interim chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine. His other duties include medical directorship of Northwest Hospital's Clinical Laboratory, direction of the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory at Harborview Medical Center, and laboratory direction at Airlift Northwest. He is an associate professor in the UW Department of Laboratory Medicine.

Dr. Baird earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Stanford University, and his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego. He first came to UW as an anatomic and clinical pathology resident, and he stayed on as faculty in the Department of Laboratory Medicine, with an adjunct appointment in the Department of Pathology.

Dr. Baird is board-certified in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology and clinical chemistry.
