David A. Dichek, M.D., is a UW professor of medicine and associate director of research in the Division of Cardiology. He holds the John L. Locke Jr. Family Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Research and Treatment and an adjunct appointment in the Department of Pathology.
Dr. Dichek earned his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He completed his internal medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and a cardiology clinical fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease.
His clinical interests include coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and preventive cardiology. His research interests include vascular biology with a focus on the contributions of the plasminogen-plasminogen activator system and transforming growth factor-beta to vascular disease; gene transfer to blood vessels; and gene therapy for cardiovascular disease.
In his spare time, Dr. Dichek enjoys bicycle touring, reading Shakespeare and watching French cinema and classic films.
