Patient Care Philosophy

My goal is to keep my patients active and functional. I believe in educating my patients as best as possible through the review of anatomy and biomechanics about their musculoskeletal and sports injuries and working together to develop sound, evidence-based treatment plans. I also understand that there are cases where an exact answer to a problem is not known, but I try to provide my patients with tools to hopefully manage these situations.

Personal Interests

Street food, Texas BBQ, traveling, home improvement, automotive repair, running and biking.

Clinical Interests

Non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal and sports injuries of the knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, wrist, ankle, foot, low back and neck; bursitis; tendinitis; rotator cuff impingement; knee pain; ankle sprain; tennis elbow; labral tear; sciatica; radiculopathy; herniated disc; platelet rich plasma (PRP); joint and bursa steroid injections; viscosupplementation; lumbar epidural steroids.

Research Interests

Musculoskeletal ultrasound; regenerative medicine; tendinopathy.

Dr. Liem is a sports medicine physician and UW clinical assistant professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. He is board certified in sports medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Dr. Liem grew up in Seattle and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington before moving to New York City and earning his M.D. from New York University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Virginia Mason Medical Center and then his residency at Northwestern University in Chicago. He returned to the University of Washington to complete a fellowship in sports medicine.

Dr. Liem also worked as a sports medicine physician in Houston, Texas.
