Dr. Clowes is a board-certified surgeon specializing in peripheral vascular conditions. He is a UW professor of surgery and holds an endowed chair in vascular surgery. He was chief of UW's Division of Vascular Surgery from 1995 to 2007.

He earned his medical degree from Harvard and did his residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He also completed a research fellowship at Harvard and a clinical fellowship in vascular surgery at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston.
