Patient Care Philosophy

I am fortunate to work with a talented, dedicated multidisciplinary team of providers with access to the latest technologies and treatments. I work with this team and with my patients to create and carry out a tailored treatment plan. All patients are unique, and every plan should take into consideration the specifics of their disease and their personal values and preferences.

Minimally invasive treatments for primary and secondary liver cancers; uterine fibroid embolization; percutaneous biliary interventions; transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts; balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration.

Healthcare utilization; comparative effectiveness; hepatocellular carcinoma, transarterial chemoembolization; Y-90 radioembolization; transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts.

Dr. Kwan is an attending interventional radiologist at UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and a UW assistant professor of radiology. She performs minimally invasive procedures using image-guidance, with a clinical focus in the treatment of liver cancer and uterine fibroids.

Dr. Kwan graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. from Yale University. She subsequently received her M.D. training from Stanford University, during which time she co-founded a student-run free clinic for the underserved. She completed her residency in diagnostic radiology and fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Kwan has authored multiple peer-reviewed articles in the field of radiology. Her areas of research interest include healthcare utilization and comparative effectiveness. She is currently a scholar with the NIH-funded KL2 Multidisciplinary Clinical Research Program and co-chairs the comparative effectiveness research committee of the Society of Interventional Radiology Foundation.
