UW Medicine’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

February 1, 2017

Dear UW Medicine Community,

The recent executive order concerning immigration has raised many concerns in our community. Last fall, after the presidential election, I wrote about the importance of being guided by our mission during a time of extraordinarily rapid change in healthcare and turbulence in our country.

In this spirit, I want to reiterate that UW Medicine embraces "diversity, equity and inclusion" as part of our core values.

Our strength comes from the diversity of our faculty, staff and students, and we will continue to welcome patients into our health system, regardless of their immigrant status or country of origin.

We are working closely with our colleagues throughout the University to support students, faculty, staff and scholars who come here from around the world. UW President Ana Mari Cauce has expressed her commitment to support our international community (see President's Blog), and the UW Office of Global Affairs has launched a resource with travel recommendations and other information.

At UW Medicine, our path forward is clear. We will continue to provide high-quality care to people from all walks of life, and we will continue to be a voice against any form of racism, discrimination and inequality.

Thank you for joining me in this unwavering commitment to our mission and values.

Sincerely,

Paul G. Ramsey, M.D.
