About this Clinic
This clinic specializes in the diagnosis and management of adults with iron overload disorders. These disorders cause the body to retain iron in vital organs and joints. Most patients seen in the clinic have hereditary hemochromatosis, the most common inherited condition in the United States, this condition is found in approximately 1 in 400 Americans of Northern European ancestory. We also see patients with secondary iron overload, due to repeated blood transfusions, iron injections or other causes.
The Iron Overload Clinic is located on the third floor of the medical center. You can also find more information about hemochromatosis at the UW Division of Gastroenterology's Web site, http://www.uwgi.org/
