Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress

Harborview Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress (HCSATS) prevents and counters the harmful effects of traumatic experiences on victims, families, and our community.

These experiences include sexual and physical abuse and neglect of children, rape, sexual harassment, violent crime, accidents, and disasters.

Services reflect the values, beliefs and traditions of our community and are available to people of all ages. We strive to create a society free from interpersonal violence.

For Help Right Away: If you or someone you are concerned about has been sexually assaulted within the past few days; or is in emotional crisis due to sexual assault or other traumatic event, call (206) 744-1600

Programs include:


Medical Services

  • Emergency care after sexual assault/abuse
  • Scheduled medical exams for non-acute sexual assault, child abuse and neglect
  • Consultation for medical, legal and child welfare professionals 

Evaluation Services

  • Specialized evaluations to assess suspected sexual assault in children
  • Evaluation and treatment for young children with sexual behavior problems
  • Foster Care Assessment Program   

Counseling Services

  • Information and referral: resources and assistance related to sexual assault and traumatic experiences
  • Crisis counseling and support: assistance by phone or in person to victims/survivors and their families
  • Legal and medical advocacy: help for victims to ensure their interests are represented and rights upheld in legal and medical systems
  • Trauma-specific treatment: helping survivors understand trauma relations and resolve trauma effects
  • Support and therapy groups: for child, teen, and adult sexual assault survivors;non-offending parents; and trauma survivors
  • Parent-child interaction training: for families of children ages 3 – 11. Parents learn specific skills to improve quality of parent child relationships and effectively manage behavior problems
  • Therapy network: access to a specialized network of behavioral health professionals who provide low-fee therapy to adult survivors of child sexual abuse
