The International Medicine Clinic at Harborview provides adult refugees and immigrants (ages 16 and older) with the highest quality of primary care services. Non- and limited-English speaking adults receive care with the assistance of staff who speak the languages most commonly encountered in the clinic: Amharic, Cambodia, Cantonese, Chao Jo, Mandarin, Hmong, Laotian, Mien, Oromo, Somali, Tigrinya, and Vietnamese. Interpreter services are also available.
Since many clinic patients are accustomed to non-Western healing traditions, acupuncture, and massage are available, and providers often collaborate with community healers. Our Community House Calls program works with members of the refugee and immigrant communities to visit patients at home and make follow-up visits. The clinic also collaborates with other community health agencies on important public health projects, such as Ethnomed, a source of multicultural health care information available on the internet at http://www.ethnomed.org/.
Health education is available for a variety of conditions, either in the clinic or through the Patient and Family Resource Center.
Patient care coordinators will help with a variety of issues related to care, such as health insurance, making appointments, contacting other agencies. The full services of UW Medicine are available for other specialty services or hospitalization.
