Nutrition Services

Nutrition consultationThe UW Neighborhood Clinics offer patients medical nutrition therapy and diabetes education. These services are provided by Deborah Katz, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, who is certified by the State of Washington, Health Professions Quality Assurance Division, and registered dietitian Maureen Chomko. At the request of your primary care provider, we provide nutritional assessment, counseling, education and guidance on a variety of nutrition related concerns.

Patients referred for diabetes education will spend approximately one hour with Deb Katz in an initial assessment, which will include a discussion of diet, exercise, smoking, weight reduction and other behaviors that may be playing a part in the self-management of diabetes.

Katz, who also provides education for patients on home glucose monitoring and the use of diabetes medications, will follow up with repeat visits and telephone calls. Visits with her take place in the patient’s primary care clinic in close collaboration with the patient’s primary care provider.

Nutrition services are available at all UW Neighborhood Clinic locations.
