Harborview Medical Center is an authorized training center for the American Heart Association (AHA). The AHA is the recognized authority in resuscitation science and training.
Harborview offers many opportunities through the Community Training Center (CTC). To register online for any of our courses, click the appropriate register online button.

Unless noted in the confirmation, all BLS training is held in the Research & Training Building located at 300 Ninth Ave., Seattle, WA 98104. Refer to the whiteboard, located in the lobby, for the room number. ACLS training is held in the Ninth & Jefferson Building at 908 Jefferson Street, Third Floor, ISIS Simulation Training Center.
You can reschedule your registration to another class no more than once. After that you will be charged a new registration fee. Failure to show or cancel more than 24 hours before the course will result in forfeiture of course fees and require a new registration for any future course.
ALL REGISTRATION FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
In the rare instance that a course is repeated to obtain a certification a 50% reduced fee will apply.

For new providers or to review material
This two-day ACLS course is designed for health-care professionals whose occupation requires proficiency in ACLS skills. It is appropriate for providers with some knowledge of cardiac rhythms and medications but who have not taken ACLS education in the past, for those whose cards have expired, or who would like a review of the guidelines. This course consists of a series of learning stations including:
- ACLS algorithms
- Rhythm recognition
- BLS proficiency
- ACLS pharmacology
- Written evaluation
Preparation
The ACLS Provider manual will be mailed to you. Please review the course agenda, review and understand the information in the ACLS Provider Manual. Pay particular attention to the 10 cases in Part 5. The resuscitation scenarios require that your BLS skills and knowledge are current. You will be tested on 1-rescuer adult CPR and AED skills at the beginning of the ACLS Provider Course. You must know this in advance, since you will not be taught how to do CPR or how to use an AED. Review, understand, and complete the ECG and Pharmacology Precourse Self-Assessment on the Student Website. Print your scores for the Precourse Self-Assessment and bring them with you to class.

This one-day ACLS renewal class will provide health-care providers with previous ACLS education the opportunity to update their skills in accordance with the standards and guidelines for the American Heart Association. The following knowledge and skills will be evaluated:

- ACLS pharmacology
- Written evaluation

The resuscitation scenarios require that your BLS skills and knowledge are current. You will be tested on 1-rescuer adult CPR and AED skills at the beginning of the ACLS Provider Course. You must know this in advance, since you will not be taught how to do CPR or how to use an AED. Review, understand, and complete the ECG and Pharmacology Precourse Self-Assessment on the Student Website. The course only includes an overview on how to read or interpret ECGs and detailed ACLS pharmacology. Print your scores for the Precourse Self-Assessment and bring them with you to class.

ACLS Online (Heartcode ACLS Part 1)

This course is designed for healthcare professionals (physicians, nurses, EMS personnel, etc) who are renewing their ACLS Provider status. This course is designed with the experienced provider in mind and is recommended for those who are actively involved in cardiac arrest resuscitation codes.
Part 1: Completed online through a key purchased from the HMC Community Training Center. Through interactive case-based micro-simulation technology, this course teaches:
- Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions that may result in cardiac arrest or complicated resuscitation outcomes.
- Management of cardiac arrest until return of spontaneous circulation, termination of resuscitation, or transfer of care.
- Recognition of life threatening clinical situations such as stroke.
- Identification and treatment of ischemic chest pain and expedition of the care of patients with acute coronary syndromes.
- Effective communication as a member or leader of a resuscitation team and how to recognize the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance.
- Basic life support care, including prioritizing chest compressions and integrating an AED.
Course can be completed in approximately six hours and includes a written exam.
Part 2: Students must complete a testing session by an AHA ACLS Instructor that includes successful management of a megacode, one-rescuer CPR, AED use, and ventilation with a bag-mask device to earn their AHA ACLS provider card. After completion of the online portion, the student will call the Harborview Community Training Center to schedule completion of the skills testing portion.
Provider cards will be issued upon successful completion of course.

The purpose of the ACLS instructor course is to train new ACLS instructors. New instructor candidates are required to have current ACLS credentials good for more than 90 days after date of instructor course and have comprehensive experience in Advanced Cardiac Life Support subject matter. The course will focus on facilitation techniques.
Note: In order to register for the ACLS Instructor course, you must complete the instructor candidate application packet and submit it to the CTC.
The ACLS instructor course is comprised of two parts. Part one is eight hours in the classroom; part two is an online interactive core instructor training.
The core instructor course needs to be completed prior to the classroom day.

This universal course is designed to meet the Basic Life Support (CPR) certification requirements for both the new and the renewing health-care provider. Certification is required for anyone who intends to enter a clinical program of study or work in a medical or patient care setting.

For health-care providers seeking first-time training or renewal of their BLS card.

Part 2: *Students must complete a skills practice and testing session with an AHA BLS Instructor to earn their AHA BLS health-care provider card. After completion of the online portion, the student will call the Harborview Community Training Center to complete the skills validation.

This Basic Life Support instructor course is designed to prepare current Basic Life Support providers for their role as a course facilitator for American Heart Association Basic Life Support and Heartsaver First Aid courses.
