Under the umbrella of UW Medicine Neurologic Center at Harborview Medical Center are several programs that draw referrals from the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

UW Medicine Neurological Surgery, based at Harborview and UW Medical Centers, are some of the busiest neurosurgical facilities in the state and treat some of the most complex neurosurgical problems.

UW Medicine doctors have developed a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary service to diagnose and treat complex conditions of the brain.

Neurosurgeons and orthopaedic surgeons collaborate to provide patients with complex, high-risk spinal problems such as deformities, injuries and/or degenerative diseases with state-of-the art surgical intervention to correct spinal maladies treated by the Complex Spine Service.


In 2000, Harborview rounded out its neurosciences capabilities by providing radiosurgical intervention for certain tumors, lesions and abnormalities by acquiring a Gamma Knife located at the UW Medicine Gamma Knife Center at Harborview.

The service provides some patients with a non-surgical option for treating certain anomalies and recurrent tumors. Harborview is a leader in utilizing innovative techniques to treat movement disorders including Parkinson's and Essential Tremor using surgically implanted adaptive devices as well as other treatments.

The UW Medicine Stroke Center at Harborview is a JCAHO certified Primary Stroke Center staffed by specialists who have dedicated their careers to stroke care and stroke researchStroke specialists and neuroradiologists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide patient care.

The UW Medicine Regional Epilepsy Center, based at Harborview, provides some of the most sophisticated medical and surgical interventions for individuals suffering from severe seizure disorders. The breadth of services includes diagnosis and treatment for seizures and psychoseizures; drug and surgical intervention, as appropriate; and follow-up, including rehabilitation and vocational counseling.
