Harborview Medical Center is known throughout the WAMI (Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho) region as having the experts to put the lives of trauma victims back together. Harborview’s highly skilled physicians and staff work as a team to help restore form and function to those suffering from the most complex, multi-system injuries.
As an extension of its collaborative approach to health care, Harborview has launched a new multi-disciplinary center of emphasis with a team approach to reconstructing and rebuilding the lives of patients with all types of problems whether it is from injury, infection, tumor, or congenital.
The new Center for Advanced Reconstruction and Rehabilitation (CARER) is composed of the following key services:
All services work together to ensure that patients and their physicians have easy access to appropriate reconstructive and/or rehabilitative care. There is “no wrong door.” Each of these services is a portal to all of the excellent reconstructive and rehabilitative care provided at Harborview. CARER works closely with Harborview’s other centers of emphasis – trauma, burns, neurosciences, and HIV/STD.
Each service not only provides patients with state-of-the-art treatment for acute injuries, but also provides corrective surgeries, treatments, and rehabilitation post-trauma and for congenital malformations. Patients who have not had the desired outcomes of post-traumatic surgeries at other facilities are often referred to Harborview for the best care available.
